The King George V1 Weekend at Ascot provided the perfect
backdrop for the Travel Retail Consortium’s annual day-event for its airline,
airport and ferry customers. Some 72 TRC members and guests enjoyed a day of
exciting horse-racing, with a six race card including the John Guest Brown Jack
Stakes. To help betting choices, pre-racing tips were delivered to the audience
by ex-jockey and racing pundit Colin Brown.
The
day kicked off with a tasting of the new Taittinger Prelude Champagne, with
time for guests to both explore a mini trade
exhibition displaying members’ product lines and enter the annual raffle for a
wealth of prizes donated by both TRC members and guests.
Racing started as a superb lunch was served,
washed down with wines from Accolade, while a High Tea later in the day
included tea choices from Twinings.
Introducing the day, TRC chairman Rebecca
Harwood-Lincoln welcomed guests to Ascot and took the opportunity to explain
the new business concept that will be added to future TRC events, which at
Ascot was the mini trade exhibition. “Today is a very relaxed occasion designed
for all of us to network in a fun social environment whilst enabling guests to
learn a little more about TRC members product lines,” she said.
The occasion is certainly welcomed by guests,
as Nicola Tompkins, Head of Buying and Merchandising at P&O Ferries
confirmed:
“The TRC is a
fantastic organisation, bringing suppliers and retailers together to network
and discuss new opportunities. Aside from the business element, their events
are also great fun and our recent day at Ascot was no exception. The team at
P&O Ferries very much values these days and appreciates being a part of the
TRC network.”
Suzanne Mahoney, Director of Buying at Harding
Retail added:
“Congratulations to the TRC for executing
another exceptional day. Ascot
Racecourse was the perfect choice of venue and it was a fun and interactive
day. As always, the TRC events are great
to catch up with old and new colleagues and meet with some of our valued
vendors and suppliers. Many thanks to all those involved in its
organization”
This year the annual raffle raised £501 for the Childrens Hyperinsulinism Charity, a UK based organisation to support families who have children with
Congenital Hyperinsulinism by holding conferences, raising awareness and funds
for research. Says Rebecca: “We were really thrilled at the generosity of
everyone at the event today and are delighted with the amount raised for this
year’s very worthwhile charity.”
Attending the day were representatives from Alpha,
Ambassadors Choice, British Airways, Brittany Ferries, Condor, DFASS, Dufry, Gate Retail, Harding Retail, Lagadere, P&O Ferries , Retail
In Motion, Tourvest.
