The Travel
Retail Consortium has raised a significant amount of funds for the Guillain Barré
& Associated Inflammatory Neuropathies charity, also known as GAIN. TRC has
been supporting GAIN for the last 2 years and has raised £2100 since the
charity was nominated by Peter Ayling after he was elected Chairman in 2015. Peter felt that this was an
appropriate charity as he had suffered from Guillain Barré Syndrome in 1985.
GAIN helps
people living in the UK and Ireland who have been affected by Guillain Barré Syndrome;
a rapid-onset muscle weakness caused by the immune system damaging the
peripheral nervous system. It also helps people with chronic inflammatory
demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) and other associated inflammatory
neuropathies, and provides information to health professi
onals and facilitates research into these devastating illnesses.
Gordon
Sturmey, who volunteers for GAIN, was recently in attendance to a Travel Retail
Consortium meeting to give the members an insight into the charity and was
presented with the cheque by Peter Ayling.
Says Peter
Ayling: “GAIN is a charity very close to my heart, and it is heartwarming and
gratifying to be able to help such a worthy cause. Guillain Barré syndrome is
not a well known illness, but there are many people suffering from this
debilitating condition, and we have been doing as much as we can to bring
awareness and support to this cause.”
