Thom Rankin, TFWA
Vice-President: “The theme of the TFWA Asia Pacific Conference
refers not only to the fact that the duty free and travel retail
business is developing rapidly in Asia but to the impact of Asian
travelling consumers on various markets. Our speakers have first-hand
experience at the highest level and are very well-placed to comment
on the ways in which Asia is shaping the world.”
As Prime Minister from
2010 to June 2013, and in her previous role as Deputy Prime Minister,
Julia Gillard was central to the successful management of Australia’s
economy, the 12th biggest economy in the world, during the
global financial crisis. As Australia positioned itself to seize the
benefits of Asia’s rise, Ms Gillard developed the country’s
guiding policy paper, Australia in the Asian Century.
Parag
Khanna is a leading global strategist and world traveller. A foreign
policy advisor to Barack Obama during his first US presidential
campaign, he holds various influential roles including professor at
the Lee Kuan Yew School in Singapore and Senior Fellow at the New
America Foundation. He advises numerous governments around the world,
and has published several best-selling books including ‘The Second
World: Empires and Influence in the New Global Order’ on whose
broad themes he will draw at the TFWA Asia Pacific Conference.
Following the plenary
session a choice of four workshops will be offered, each focusing on
a particular sub-region in Asia. Details will be revealed in due
course.
