Paint by numbers

Blooming flowers and birdsong signify spring has arrived. To inject vitality into your spring look, carry a Furla bag with eye-popping colors and energetic designs.

Furla's spring and summer collection 2015 takes inspiration from the Neo-pop artistic movement of the 1980s, which embraces vibrant colors, distinctive art, geometric touches and innovative styles.
An artistic and pop feeling pervades the collection with a vivid color palette including orange and ocean blue, counterpointed by shades of gray and white.

The Candy Bag series catches your eyes in an explosion of colors, complete with impeccable Italian tailoring, while a new version featuring resin brush- stroke adds a bit of individuality to the collection.

The new Furla Twist Bag series offers a practical selection playing along with a color blocking effect.
The decorative metal bar and woven inner compartment showcase the power of detail to finish a cool and modern look.

The soft-edged, user-friendly Furla Spy backpack is another surprise. Made of soft nappa and suede leather, the young and vibrant design is adorned with burnished metal that sets off a graphic polka-dot effect.

Delegates are invited to gather at the Welcoming Cocktail on Sunday 10th which will set them up for a day of plenary conference sessions and workshops followed by three days of meetings in the exhibition.

The theme of the Conference this year is ‘Staying a Step Ahead’ in reference to the fast growth of travel and tourism in the Asia Pacific region and the need for the duty free & travel retail industry to remain competitive and relevant.

Setting the scene on Monday 11th, the opening session will feature exclusive filmed interviews with travellers at Singapore Changi Airport, offering insights from the people who matter most.

In his state of the industry address, TFWA President Erik Juul-Mortensen will present the latest data on travel retail performance in Asia Pacific, and look at the role brands and brand-owners play in helping the region fulfil its potential.

Keynote addresses will be provided by two of Asia Pacific’s most respected business leaders: Liew Mun Leong, founding President and CEO of CapitaLand Group, and Chairman of the Board of Directors at Changi Airport Group; and Andrew Wu, LVMH Group President, Greater China.

Liew Mun Leong has over 40 years of experience in construction and commercial real estate, and has been instrumental in the development of Changi Airport, widely recognized as one of the best airports in the world. He is well placed to discuss the rise of Asia, and the challenges facing the region as it strives to retain its growth momentum.

WORKSHOP D ‘Asia’s rising stars’ will focus on some of the markets that are generating most excitement in the Asia Pacific industry today. Underpinned by research conducted by the Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association, the session will explore growth markets in the ASEAN region and in Australasia, and look at how they are changing the travel retail landscape.

Between Workshops A/B and B/C there will be an Industry Association Working Lunch for invited delegates to discuss regulatory and other issues facing the industry in Asia Pacific while most delegates will network over lunch in an adjoining room.

The Closing plenary session, ‘Competitiveness in a new world’, will focus on a world economy which is entering a new era of fragility, characterized by weaker growth, financial, monetary and price instability. Stéphane Garelli, a world authority on competitiveness having pioneered this new field of economics, will give the keynote address. He is a professor at the International Institute for Management Development and at the University of Lausanne, and the founder of the World Competitiveness Center.

Hippie Chic – the original Bohemian watch On target for one million sales

Hippie Chic 'Dusk'
On the eve of the Duty Free Show of the Americas, Tyko Travel Retail has announced that its Original Bohemian watch brand Hippie Chic is on target to sell one million units onboard this year.

Hippie Chic 'Bazaar'
Hippie Chic 'Pagan'

Exclusive to travel retail and offered in a variety of designs and formats, Hippie Chic is now listed on 98% of Tyko’s 300 airline customers – and the number is growing all the time.

Tyko’s Martin Lovatt emphasizes that Hippie Chic is the original bohemian inspired brand of its kind within the travel retail sector: “Hippie Chic has gained some remarkable ground since launching back in 2013, on board sales have gone from strength to to strength each year and as a result we have noticed a number of very similar designs being offered to the travel retail sector in recent months. We experienced something very similar when we launched Breo back in 2008. The Roam Elite went on to sell over 4 million units in just 2 years.

In Orlando this year, Tyko is keen to further demonstrate to buyers that the company is a true leader within the industry, creating the next must-have products for its clients. “This is a very exciting time for us as we have delivered in a short space of time two industry changing brands (Breo & Hippie Chic) and are working on some incredibly exciting new looks for our brands which will further establish Tyko as ‘the’ leading supplier of ‘on trend’ products,” continues Lovatt.

“Our team has over 30 years knowledge and experience within the watch and jewellery sector, both within the travel retail sector and global domestic markets. We strive to build close, long term relationships with all our buyers and want to be seen as  a partner to our key strategic clients rather than just a supplier.”

US expansion for Paul & Shark gives new opportunities for travel retail

The Paul & Shark Las Vegas store opening in April
Paul & Shark is significantly expanding its investment into the US domestic market over the next year and is confident that this will reflect in new airport retail opportunities within the country.

The Italian luxury lifestyle brand is opening two new stores this year while two others are being renovated and expanded. Mid-April sees the opening of a new 1,500 sq ft boutique in the Forum Shops in Las Vegas, created by Milan based Takeda Katuya Design to reflect Paul & Shark’s new Milan showroom.  At the end of 2015, Paul & Shark will open a 1,900 sq ft boutique in the Houston Galleria.

In addition Paul & Shark will be extending its Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills store from 1,700 sq ft to 2,000sq ft on the main floor plus 700 sq ft on a mezzanine.  Completion is expected by September. Next March will see the brand’s Aventura, Florida store also expanded from 1,400 to 2,600 sq ft. Paul & Shark also has a mono-brand store in Madison Avenue, New York.

All the stores will feature new concept interiors and storefronts of blue undulating aluminium sheet patchwork intended to reflect waves of water – perfect for Paul & Shark’s yachting and sailing heritage

The stores are expected to attract visitors not only from the US but also China and the Middle East; it is the rapidly increasing levels of visitors from these high-spending nations that bode well for Paul & Shark’s travel retail development in America.

Says Worldwide Travel Retail Director Catherine Bonelli: “It is definitely the right time for Paul & Shark to focus on the US; currently it represents just 10% of our global business but we consider there is huge potential here for this ‘Made in Italy’ luxury lifestyle brand. On this basis we are now also exploring travel retail opportunities in the US, where we can find the right locations and space.  Americans are becoming more and more familiar with Paul & Shark and this, combined with the growing increase in Chinese, Middle Eastern and South American visitors to the States gives us a perfect travel retail opportunity.”
