PVM returns to Orlando with exciting new products

Perfetti Van Melle has added a selection of delicious new sweets and gum to its highly regarded portfolio of sugar confectionery, which it will be showing at the upcoming IAADFS Orlando (1223 Cypress Ballroom).

New and notable is the Mini Mentos Passport Kit consists of a ‘real’ kids passport with a
contact page, games and drawings inside, two stamps, three crayons, a sheet filled with travel themed stickers, and; of course, candy: seven rolls of Mini Mentos in the flavours cola, orange, lemon, and strawberry.

Saying “no” has just become more difficult, with the launch of Mentos Choco. Each jumbo roll contains six endlessly tasty Mentos Choco rolls. An exceptional addition to the existing flavours of Mentos Jumbo Roll.

Perfect for travel retail is the Chupa Chups Trolls Tin Gift Pack, and its beautiful design is as attractive as its content. Available in three eye-catching designs and filled with 8 fruity lollipops, kids will want to collect them all.

A chewing gum made with a natural green tea liquid filling, the unique composition of the
new Mentos gum flavours allows for a true taste sensation over and over again.
Available in three new flavours: Pure Fresh Mint Euca, Pure Fresh Spearmint, and Pure White Sweet Mint, each is packaged in quantities of 45 pieces. With these flavours we complete the assortment to a total of 6 flavours to meet the travellers need for immediate freshness.

PVM’s Brand Manager Global Travel Retail, Femke van Veen, comments: “PVM is all about innovation and originality. We strive to be the world’s most innovative confectionery company and we do so by creating imaginative products and brands.

“PVM delivers exceptionally tasty confectionery enjoyed in over 150 countries. In Travel Retail we try to ensure having an assortment that appeal to all ages. We have an extended kids line-up that provides more than just candy – but something to keep and play with. We provide in a wide range of snacking items and have suitable products for at the cash till point like our Now Mints or GUM items.”

Femke also reveals PVM’s key business-driving strategy for travel retail:

Must-haves: “We at PVM exist to drive businesses. To achieve this we have identified a ‘must-have assortment,’ with the main purpose of driving the sugar confectionery for retailers and to delight travellers all over the world. Retailers should make sure their assortment is up to date so together we can continue creating ‘sweet smiles’ all over the world.”

Cash till point: “As we see in other businesses, the moment at the cash register stays an important point of interest. The purchase is driven by a high impulse decision-making process resulting in direct incremental basket spend. Research has shown that 48% of travellers would like to find products like sweets, candies and mints at the cash till point. Even 55% of travellers would find gum to be the perfect product to buy at this point. To ensure we fully support retailers in having the right assortment at the right location we have outlined our snacking items that fulfill the travellers needs.”

New products: “Besides having the right core assortment, it stays our ambition to continuously excite retailers and travellers with joyful and eye-catching products. Perfect as a gift for somebody else or as a gift to share. We also had a close look at our gum assortment, which resulted in an optimized portfolio by replacing 4 existing flavours with 3 new flavours. As mentioned before, perfect products for the cash till point.”

Stoli Group® to Present Diverse Portfolio at the Duty Free Show of the Americas

Kentucky Owl® Bourbon, KAH® Tequila, and Bayou® Rum to join

Stoli® and elit® Vodkas on the Bar in Orlando

Following another year of strong growth in the Americas Duty Free channel, Stoli Group® returns to the Duty Free Show of the Americas at Stand 531 with an expanded portfolio, including small-batch Kentucky Owl® Bourbon, premium KAH® Tequila, and Bayou® Rum, whose product line has already been enthusiastically welcomed in US Duty Free channel.

Bayou Rum, which has carved its niche in the cruise channel and will be launching in airports soon, is a handcrafted, pot-distilled American rum produced from fresh, locally sourced sugarcane. With more than 80 awards received, Bayou is a Louisiana rum for the world to enjoy. The largest private rum distillery in America offers four SKUs:
  • Silver features complex flavor perfect for drinking on the rocks
  • Spiced is rested in a mix of Creole spices for 40 days
  • Satsuma is blended with fresh Satsuma citrus
  • Select is aged for years in bourbon barrels

KAH Tequila, which was designed to pay reverence and honour to Mexico and its people, entered the Stoli Group fold at the end of 2016. The product range features four expressions made from hand-selected 100% blue agave. Each is presented in its own uniquely decorated, spirited skull bottle:
  • Blanco starts with a sweet taste, followed by a peppery spice
  • Reposado features a powerful and viscous taste after going through a 10-month aging process
  • Añejo has agave, chocolate and coffee notes.
  • Extra Añejo has been matured for four and a half years in American oak casks

Kentucky Owl Bourbon is the latest addition to the Stoli Group portfolio, but its history traces back to 1879 when it was gifted to Charles Mortimer Dedman by his adopted father. Government agents hauled it away in 1916 during prohibition, but C.M.’s great-great-grandson, Dixon, revived it in 2008 with the help of family friends and California winemakers, Mark and Sherri Carter. In 2014,
Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey was the Drinks Category Winner at Garden & Gun magazine’s “Made in the South” awards.

“We are thrilled to launch these new products into Americas Duty Free, and to pair them with engaging, 360-degree airport activations,” said Dayna Dennington, Stoli Group’s Regional Director, Duty Free North & Central America. “Experiences are critical in recruiting millennial consumers, currently the most important group for the spirits category. To successfully introduce our products, we have to create unique and memorable engagements, which we’ll do through interactive, multi-sensory activations and events.”

Amidst a challenging climate, Stoli Group delivered consistent results across all Duty Free categories in 2016.

“With a focus on the cruise channel, we were able to secure new menu listings, cocktails of the day and exclusive partnerships with our partners, which will continue to pay dividends as we on-board new brands,” continued Dennington. “In 2017, despite forecasted currency fluctuations and market stability in question, we will continue to chart innovative and disruptive paths. While retail remains under pressure, we will place a high priority on offering varied products and shopping experiences for the discerning international traveler.”

Stoli Group is cautiously optimistic that certain regions within Latin America will recover from economic challenges and the current geo-political environment.

“Through our continued market presence and promotional activations, we strive to remain top of mind with consumers during in this difficult economy. elit Vodka and the Stoli range, including the new Stoli Gluten Free, will maintain key roles. Gluten Free was very well received at its launch last year,” noted Jean-Philippe Aucher, Stoli Group’s Global Duty Free & Travel Retail Director. “We are looking forward to seeing all of our existing customers in Orlando and to welcoming potential new clients to our booth.”

Paul & Shark gets adventurous with new Autumn Winter Collection

Paul & Shark combines craftsmanship with high tech performance for its adventurous new Autumn Winter 2017-18 menswear collection, which rediscovers the iconic symbol of the brand- the shark.

The heart of the collection is inspired by Alex Bellini’s adventure at -40degrees on Iceland’s glacier, Vatnajökull, and consists of 4 state-of-the-art jackets:

Water Jacket - #SHARKHUB 01
Designed like a fabric parka, yet it reproduces the luminescent effects of materials with reflectors and the camouflage shades of vegetation. Water and wind resistant.

Fire Jacket - #SHARKHUB 02
The surface of this multi-zip jacket has an iridescent effect reminiscent of bright flames. Waterproof and resistant to tears, this jacket is made with a special fabric known as Tyveck that reflects the loss of heat onto the body, reducing it to a minimum even at the lowest temperatures.

Air Jacket - #SHARKHUB 03
A military style jacket made with a hollow fibre treated to allow complete thermal insulation. This garment is lightweight and resistant to water and wind.

Earth Jacket - #SHARKHUB 04
Made of cotton poplin and lightweight seamless, thermo-taped nylon, it is the ideal garment for leisure time thanks to its versatility and casualness.

Each piece of workmanship blends tailoring with active wear, haute couture and sport. Varying from merino wools treated so that they have breathable, waterproof and heat-regulating properties, to double-face down jackets made with a multi-directional stretch fabric (a lightweight material that is incredibly warm), as well as the new range of trousers that incorporate the same research, processes and experimentations as the jackets. All of this is designed to push the limits of Italian tradition towards new technological frontiers;  without forgetting the charm and casualness that have always characterised the brand.

For global travel retail, these four themes: Water, Fire, Air, and Earth, have been used to create capsule collections visually drawing the traveller’s eye instore through the use of blended colourways including forest green, woody brown and stone tones, plus deep hues of blue. These four seasonal themes sit alongside the Paul & Shark core or “DNA” colour story, used for the brand’s iconic pieces. For 2017/18, warm, autumnal Bordeaux replaces the usual bright red, while the traditional navy and white colours remain.

Says Paul & Shark’s Global Travel Retail Director, Catherine Bonelli: “We are focusing on fewer SKU’s for global travel retail, using analysis of passenger buying patterns and preferences to create a much tighter offer highlighting styles and sizes that we know work in this channel.”

The camouflage Sharkflage collection continues to provide a trendy, modern twist with jackets, sweatshirts and tees complemented by a range of accessories including backpacks, caps and shoes.  Equally aimed at the younger end of the Paul & Shark target audience are the Colour and Blue Badge collections that use American –style Sports and College style logo badges to create a preppy look. The Colour line makes a loud, bold statement with badges predominant on the front of jackets, jeans and Polos, while the Blue collection is more discreet with tone on tone badges in shades of blue.

Continuing to celebrate 40 years, a new limited edition Marine Wool sweater has also been created, drawing inspiration from the new themes of the FW17 Collection Here the original jumper in water repellent wool uses elements of the REFLECTIVE and SHARKFLAGE collections to embellish and add a point of difference and interest. It is presented in a special 40th Anniversary edition of the original tins that are, in themselves strongly distinguish the brand.

“ From a very extensive collection, we are very excited to have distilled the total offer into the perfect mix of styles, colourways and sizes for travel retail,” continues Bonelli. “We now spend a great deal of time analyzing sales from each of our retail outlets in TR to ensure that we can work closely with individual buyers to create the perfect offer for each airport, chosen to reflect the passenger profile. This next season collection is particularly innovative, practical, and different which is something both retailers and passengers are always on the lookout for.”

William Grant & Sons has an engaging approach in Orlando

William Grant & Sons returns to Orlando this year for the IAADFS Duty Free Show of the Americas, where it will be presenting the latest concepts in its travel retail portfolio within a booth conceptualized to give existing and potential buyers the same engaging experience as it does travelling consumers (Booth 100/110).

The main highlight will be the newly refreshed packaging for the Glenfiddich Cask Collection, which remains exclusive to global travel retail. The series, which is based on the Solera vat process pioneered by Glenfiddich in 1998, has been reworked to provide clearer shelf stand out, improved consumer appeal and help better signpost Glenfiddich. First shown to key buyers at the TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes last October, with first roll out planned from April, the stronger, bolder, more contemporary look was extremely well received. “We were very encouraged by the response in Cannes and are confident of a similar response from the Americas, where Glenfiddich is a core brand for us both North and South,” says Ed Cottrell, Managing Director GTR. For the Select and Reserve Cask, shades of blue were chosen to reflect a step up between the two and encourage consumers to trade up, repeated on the labels and foil caps, while the Vintage Cask features copper colouring.

The Glenfiddich Cask Collection will have a separate dedicated feature area on the William Grant booth, where visitors to the show can engage directly with the range, sampling each of the expressions and learn more about the brand concept.

The main booth sees a focus on Drambuie, Hendrick’s and Monkey Shoulder. Drambuie Scotch Liqueur was given a makeover at the end of 2016 with new packaging inspired by the brand’s 270 year history starting to show up on shelves in the region during the first half of 2017. The new bottle styling is a modern interpretation of classic design and is cast in dark amber glass, topped with Drambuie’s signature red cork closure. With its own feature wall at the Duty Free Show of the Americas, Drambuie is seen as a hidden gem in the WGS portfolio, with tremendous potential given the current classic cocktail resurgence.

In celebration of the upcoming World Cucumber Day on the 14th of June, William Grant will be bringing back the quirky ‘Master Serve ‘O’ Matic’ bicycle, which delivers the perfect slice of cucumber to accompany a ‘Hendrick’s & Tonic.’ The bicycle unit, along with floor and wall graphics, is designed to bring the Hendrick’s brand to life in a fun and innovative way and is a perfect example of WGS’s belief in high impact, experiential activations that bring alive its brand essence in positive and engaging ways.

The back wall of the stand is devoted to Monkey Shoulder, which continues to perform extremely well in the Americas. It’s positioning of “100% Made for Mixing” supports its versatility as a premium Blended Malt whisky that can be enjoyed on its own or in cocktails. Visitors can enjoy some of the classic Monkey Shoulder cocktails from the bar area, along with other drinks from the wide portfolio.

Says Richard Bush, Regional Marketing Manager: “2016 was a challenging year in the Americas due to a number of factors, including the strong US dollar and devalued local currencies, the severe economic downturn in South America and the ongoing political crisis in Brazil. In spite of these obstacles, we were able to hit and even exceed our sales targets and ended up well ahead of 2015. While we are still facing a lot of the same headwinds and it’s sure to be another challenging year, we remain optimistic and motivated at the start of 2017.

“We are excited to be exhibiting once again at the Duty Free Show of the Americas, it is a highly valuable event for us and we look forward to meeting with our regional and global partners both to discuss our 2017 portfolio and to show how WGS brings its brands to life with exciting, engaging and educational activations that suit the DNA of each individual collection.”

Marie Brizard takes off in the Americas

Marie Brizard returns to Orlando for this year’s Duty Free Show of the Americas with refreshed packaging and award-winning products to win over potential new buyers for the region.

The new revived look for the Marie Brizard liqueurs range will be on display. Marie Brizard L’Originale Anisette was created in 1763, and since then has travelled through the centuries, never going out of fashion. Today, this iconic mix is back with a new look that is synonymous with freedom of mind, non-conformism and refinement. This new look asserts Marie Brizard’s strong personality through a new visual identity that cleverly brings some set traditions into play while breaking others. Marie Brizard liqueurs are riding high on the wave of the cocktail trend and the MBWS team is looking forward to sharing their Travel Retail activation plans with customers.

Also newly revived is the multiple award-winning Gautier range, which was recently recognised as the best cognac in the world for the second year in a row. Gautier has undergone a major strategic makeover, with a new brand personality and package design based on craftsmanship, heritage, unique know-how, and generosity. ‘An accessible craft cognac’ is Gautier’s new brand territory, reflecting a unique and authentic relationship to the natural elements (wood, water, cognac eaux-de-vie) in the cognac making process while the new packaging boasts vivid imagery such as vineyards and rivers, giving a strong and contemporary visual identity.

The controversial and daring SHOTKA, a premium high strength flavoured vodka targeted at rebellious night-clubbing fans, will also be on display. SHOTKA stands out with its unique and unexpected cannabis taste. First launched in Spain during Summer 2015 in a strategic partnership with Matinee Group, one of the most prestigious nightlife companies in the world, SHOTKA is the focus of a targeted activation program that will run throughout this year. SHOTKA will launch in the US domestic market this Spring, with interest and demand expected to grow rapidly. While the ABV of SHOTKA has been lowered in domestic markets to qualify it as a Hemp Spirit drink, the travel retail version retains its high strength of 50% ABV, making it a duty free exclusive.

Also on display will be another medal winner, Sobieski, 100% pure rye Polish vodka with an authentic, rich taste and a silky finish thanks to the high quality of the rye grain used in its production.  Sobieski vodka has seen continuous growth since its international launch in 2001 and has received many prestigious awards including:
  • DOUBLE GOLD MEDAL at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2016
  • Teraz Polska (Now Poland) – the most prestigious Polish award,
  • Gold Medal Best Standard Vodka from Drinks International,
  • Gold Medal from Beverage Testing Institute,
  • Award from French prestigious magazine “La revue du vin de France”.

Says Kevin Baker, MBWS Global Travel Retail Director: “The Americas have been a very strong region for us. In the USA Sobieski saw huge growth in the important States of California, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, while in Canada we saw significant success in Ontario and Alberta.
Gautier is currently the number one Cognac in Quebec, and number four nationally, and Gautier VSOP has recently been listed in LCBO. We are also seeing excellent results in New York.
Currently, the Marie Brizard range of liqueurs has 12 SKU’s listed in Canada and we are still seeing growth vs 2015, while Marie Brizard Blue Curaçao is currently number one in Quebec.

“We look forward to a fun week in Orlando, catching up with existing friends and clients and making new ones! Here’s to another successful year.”
