MITR brings smiles all the way to Orlando
Continuing its mission to spread smiles on a global scale, Mars International Travel Retail will be highlighting its latest smile-inducing products at the Duty Free Show of the Americas (booth 523).
Amongst its new fun-filled products being launched in Orlando to the Americas region is the new M&M’s mug. The perfect gift for a loved one, this is available as either the Red or Yellow M&M’s popular character. With a snappy quote and a 45g packet of M&M’s Choco included, this is a product for M&M’s lovers the world over, showing how coffee and chocolate are a great match.
Acknowledging the growing importance of snacking and sharing bags, MITR is introducing a new 450g Sharing Treats pouch-bag. Ideal for families and friends with different confectionery tastes, the Sharing Treats bag includes 15 mini bags of M&M’s, Skittles and Maltesers, making it the perfect confectionery mix. Also new is the attention-grabbing design for the M&M’s Exclusive Pouch – another ideal pack for sharing with friends or family. This new range of M&M’s chocolate is available in Maxi size (440g) and aims to tap into the fun of travel retail.
MITR Marketing Director Lieke Duijmelings comments: “We are delighted to be present again at this year’s Duty Free Show of the Americas. We have a great selection of products to highlight for 2015 which will bring a smile to everyone who visits our stand.”
Speaking of smiles, Mars ITR looks forward to discussing its new travel retail category vision and strategy with retailers/buyers in Orlando. MITR believes that the confectionery category’s full potential can be unlocked by harnessing the correct areas for growth, based on the premise: “A smiling traveller is a spending traveller”. By appealing to five main shopper needs, MITR is confident that the confectionery category can be doubled by 2020, at the same time benefitting all categories within the distribution channel.
“Since launching our new strategy at TFWA World Exhibition & Conference last year we have been truly delighted at the positive response from customers to our new blueprint for Travel Retail,” continues Duijmelings. “Our new strategy is based on extensive research which has revealed some facts which retailers cannot fail to ignore; for example that despite the general assumption that confectionery is primarily bought as a gift, in fact 80% of purchases are for self or sharing – it creates quite a different approach to retailing.
“We are now in discussion with a number of operators with our Category Vision One Pager and have a busy schedule of appointments to develop this further in Orlando.”
Supporting the category vision and new product line up, MITR will be running a series of compelling promotions throughout the Americas during 2015 designed to convert browsers to shoppers. These include the M&M’s Travel Mug promotion, a fun and attractive gift-with-purchase which is totally exclusive to travel retail, and the MITR Cooler Bags, the perfect solution for those that like to keep their confectionery purchases from high temperatures. This highly portable and eye-catching item is available in three core brands: Galaxy, M&M’s and Snickers.

Stoli® Limited Editions and the Americas
Stoli Group is pleased to announce it will be displaying its latest launches at this year’s Duty Free Show of the Americas (Chase International booth #1111).
The Stoli Night Edition 2014, launched at the end of last year, is the second in a range designed to target night-life. This new limited edition Stolichnaya® Premium Vodka comes alive when chilled with a unique bottle that aims to take any party from ice cold to red hot in a matter of minutes. When the bottle’s cold, the party’s hot.
The frosted glass bottle has elements printed in temperature activated ink; the transformation occurs once the bottle is chilled to under 15C/60F. Once the temperature has been reached, the innovative bottle shows high energy elements from the night, including a DJ, shakers, drinks and music symbols, the heart that features on the front of the bottle grows horns to symbolize the change from day to night.
Also being shown is the final installment in elit™ pristine water series: The Andean Edition. This highly limited edition in ultra-luxury vodka explores the concept of terroir, the idea that a place has the power to influence the flavour profile of a spirit. For each of the elit™ pristine water series editions, Stolichnaya® master craftsmen scoured the world for the most exquisite water sources from which to craft the ultimate limited-edition vodka. This year, they trekked to the crystal clear waters of Lake Colico in the La AraucanÃa Region of Chile, to a natural spring flowing from the foothills of the Andes Mountains. This water was added to elit’s meticulously crafted Russian Alpha Spirit to create the final vodka in this rare series.
With only 250 bottles set for global distribution, this highly limited-edition spirit is the jewel in the crown of a series of unique vodkas of unprecedented perfection and exclusivity.
Says North America Duty Free Director John Karem: “The last year has been very successful for us in the US and Canada markets, showing growth across the portfolio and throughout the Americas with key customers. This year we are forecasting over 10% growth in Stoli Premium and 25% growth in elit after expanding distribution and programming throughout North America. Our flavoured vodkas also remain a popular choice, especially in Latin America. We look forward to discussing this further at our stand at the Duty Free Show of the Americas.”

TFWA Care support Lifeline Clinic TB research and community health workers for a further year
Last year TFWA Care
supported Lifeline Clinic with a grant to develop the care of TB
patients, supply some much-needed equipment and continue to develop a
team of community health workers.
The objectives of the TB research are to:
We have now have an established network of San community health workers (CHWs), 38 in total, it makes sense that this network is maintained and the work of the CHWs work is integrated with the other activities of the Lifeline Clinic. Our plan is to enable:
Prof Ian Purves and Dr Sharon Smart the doctors at Lifeline Clinic commented “Our early research in screening 6 villages has shown 10% of San have TB at the moment – we just need to find them and support the care in the community – it is fantastic that TFWA have continued their support”
The objectives of the TB research are to:
- Identify the incidence and prevalence of TB in the San community.
- Research and develop a screening programme built on WHO recommendations and then screen the whole San population for TB
- Research and develop a treatment programme, which reduces interruption and defaulting from treatment.
- We have identified a lifetime prevalence of TB of 39% in the San and a current prevalence of 10.5%! It is unheard of in the literature to have a prevalence of over 1.5% especially as the San have very little HIV (<1%).
- Our TB screening programme for the San in Omaheke has so far screened 6 villages, 41 houses, and 192 people. Of these
- 13 are now on treatment
- 43 have needed further investigation
- 28 are still under investigation. Of these under investigation, 9 are likely to have TB.
We have now have an established network of San community health workers (CHWs), 38 in total, it makes sense that this network is maintained and the work of the CHWs work is integrated with the other activities of the Lifeline Clinic. Our plan is to enable:
- CHWs to become the eyes and ears of the clinic doctor in remote locations
- Clinic doctors to better support the care CHWs can offer unwell patient
- CHWs and clinic doctors working together to reduce the burden of disease caused by TB among the San e.g. CHWs can actively ensure TB treatments are taken for the required duration, can facilitate follow up of TB patients and re-supply of medication.

GLOBAL PREMIERE OF THE SENSORIAL SPECTACLE OF THE YEAR!
THE HENDRICK’S GIN “M.I.N.D Blower” UNVEILED AT SINGAPORE CHANGI AIRPORT
5TH JANUARY – 28TH FEBRUARY
CHANGI AIRPORT TERMINAL 3 DEPARTURESThe Problem;
The merry-making of the festive season is now but a fading shadow trailing behind us. It is a disappearing vision passing into the annals of history as we, and many hundreds of thousands of our fellow human beings return to the drudgery of the common place and the routine. Sadly the over indulgence of December can have a most unexpected and unpleasant effect; it has the capacity to dull the taste buds of the normally resistant and upbeat global traveller. In serious cases it can even leave the individual unable to remember what a truly magnificent Hendrick’s Gin & Tonic, complete with slice of cucumber, can taste like.
A Little Ray of Hope;
But take heart my trusted airport cognoscenti! Developed in secret by Mr. Hendrick’s himself, ably assisted by members of the Society of the Rose and Cucumber, a radical new ‘treatment’ has been developed to help recalibrate the human body. It allows the subject to achieve the optimal state of sensory equilibrium and to best appreciate the pleasingly curious taste of Hendrick’s Gin & Tonic.
Ladies and Gentlemen we offer you the Hendrick’s Gin “Manipulatory and Invasive Neural Distorter” Blower, known to its friends simply as the M.I.N.D Blower.
The Experiment in detail;
The subject (a poor and weary traveller) sits comfortably within the Hendrick’s M.I.N.D Blower chair. They are blindfolded and fitted with an auditory assistance device (in modern parlance, a set of headphones). Then the experiment begins. A 4-dimensional “roller coaster” experience follows as their sense of sight, sound, taste and smell are first distorted and stretched before being harmonised and finally recalibrated. Only at this point, once every aspect has been re-balanced and the ultimate state of expectation and desire has been attained can the subject be served a perfect Hendrick’s Gin & Tonic.
Comment;
“Where should I start” says Mr. Standard Man in the Street, the regular voice of reason for the respectable global news gathering organisation. “It is a most unusual activation. A one of a kind. It was a lovely Hendrick’s and Tonic and a most comfortable seat. If I was not going to be flying through the central departure store in Singapore Changi airport Terminal 3 during the months of January and February I would buy a new aeroplane ticket and fly there just to take part in this most spectacular experiment.”

Furla shows more innovation with Pre-Fall 2015 collection
Inspired by an urban dreamscape with street-style influence, Furla’s Pre-Fall Autumn Winter 2015/16 collection will be available for travel retail locations from May 2015. The company continues to switch from a product-focus to a lifestyle-focus, with products tailored to consumers’ needs and wants. The collection includes lines, such as Piper and Candy styles, which will be carried forward to the main AW 2015/16 offer to be shown at the Duty Free Show of the Americas this March (booth 2223).
For 2015, the collection introduces a more utilitarian look with functional pockets and embellishments reflecting a military, work and sport “uniform” theme. At the same time, soft, charming shapes reflect feminity and playfulness, while Furla’s in-house graffiti designs are rich in colour and energy, emphasising the link between the brand , contemporary art and design world.
The colour palette is broad, fresh and bold at the same time. Summery feelings are awakened by pink shades mixed together with classic, timeless tones of military greens and denim blues: Indaco and Salvia. Neon fluorescent tones are linked with the “graffiti” style while rust colour balances the mood of the urban dreamscape.
The collection sees a focus on Furla’s best sellers, such as the “Metropolis Furla bag” with new colours and materials along with the introduction of a fun Graffiti line and new shapes including an expanded mini-bag assortment and a wonderful addition to the Icon line: “Dolce Vita Furla bag”.
Once again, Furla shows its ingenuity and innovation with the introduction of an exclusive and revolutionary technique called Termonastratura and Termosaldatura – a new technical process enabling materials and colours to be combined without stitching using heat bonding. More often found in ready-to-wear, this technique allows Furla to introduce new dynamic and innovative fashion patterns and designs that place the brand on a level of its own. The new “Stella Furla bag” tote and “Metropolis Furla bag” cross-body perfectly demonstrate how this technique can create a completely different and authentic look.
Across the collection, consumers will see improvements to quality and construction designed to further elevate the brand, build positive consumer awareness and satisfaction. Popular shapes such as the tote see an evolution in styling while all shoulder straps are now adjustable with five holes. Elevated hardware details include zipper pulls with metallic end-caps, handle attachments and new colourways for some styles.
New and improved leathers are also introduced including Folk, a smooth leather with shiny affect used to accent the new “Dolce Vita Furla Bag” icon line; Monet, a new offer in the opening price range similar to Cervo in texture; Mistral, an elevated smooth and soft leather with a soft sheen; and Suede, a natural material with high aesthetics and wonderful texture.
The Graffiti collection is rich in colour and energy, emphasizing Furla’s inspiration from the art world. Cartoon style graphics decorate “Candy Furla bags” and Mini Cross-Body styles with neon fluorescent tones to reflect ‘street-style’.
Icon bags remain vital to the Furla DNA and for Pre- Fall 2015 the “Dolce Vita Furla bag” resonates with its graphic, linea design, functional silhouettes including totes and crossbody, and colourways based on both the fall/winter palette contrasted with black/white options. Icon line “Alice Furla bag” is also back for Pre-Fall with a focus on the small top handle.
The Dome shape has quickly become a Furla favourite and the new “Dandy Furla bag” is a elegant and sophisticated version using Mistral. Metal detailing gives the bag a precious look.
Other new styles in Monet leather have distinct design details such as curved stitching, rounded hardware and come in essential silhouettes such as satchel, tote, mini tote and mini cross-body with adjustable straps and zip top closures
Mini-bags have a new statement “Spy Furla Backpack”, continuing the popular trend from the summer and offered in a wide range of colours. The offer also sees new drawstrings in a variety of sizes
Within the all-important small leather-goods section there is a new emphasis on Mini-Bags with improved internal and external construction quality and a focus on functionality. All styles are offered in a wide colour assortment with new styles including a XL Bifold with external zip pocket, a Mini Bag with internal pouches and a Mini Bag with detachable strap.
‘Furla never stands still and this Pre-Fall collection shows once again the innovative and dynamic nature of the brand – always moving forward yet without compromising on its Italian heritage and roots,’ says Global Travel Retail Director Gerry Munday. ‘In a travel retail industry where consumers are continually looking for newness and originality, brands such as Furla have perfect synergy. We are looking forward to yet another very active year in travel retail and this collection will, I am confident, be very well received.’
